Established in 1969, The Spanish Action League of Onondaga County (La Liga) has been a proponent of positive change in a community that faces experiential, economic, educational, cultural, and linguistic barriers. La Liga’s mission is to build on the rich cultural heritage of the Latino community and to promote its advancement through advocacy, wellness, counseling, and education.
La Liga was created to offer comprehensive services to the Hispanic/Latino community and to address the specific needs arising from cultural and language barriers. In various ways, La Liga strives to bridge cultural, experiential, and linguistic gaps. Our multicultural, bilingual staff work to promote economic development, education, and opportunities that allow people and the community to prosper as a whole.
La Liga is an affiliate of Acacia Network, one of the largest Latino-led nonprofits in the nation, serving more than 150,000 individuals annually through integrated, trauma-informed services in the areas of health, housing, economic development, social services, and cultural revitalization. Acacia Network presently comprises more than 100 affiliates and over 2,700 employees across four boroughs in New York City, Buffalo, Albany, and Syracuse in New York State, as well as Maryland, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, Connecticut, and Puerto Rico.
